Dalmatia, in particular, is one of the country’s most beautiful regions, boasting stunning landscapes, crystal-clear waters, charming accommodations, and a wide range of exciting activities.

Let’s explore why you should consider either Trogir or Split for your next holiday.

Trogir – A Timeless Journey Through History

Trogir is a historic town where visitors are surrounded by the fascinating remnants of bygone eras. It’s no surprise that the entire town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Strolling through its medieval streets, you'll encounter numerous cultural landmarks and classic architectural wonders, including Romanesque, Renaissance, and Baroque structures. If you love sightseeing, you’ll enjoy every moment spent in Trogir.

But don’t rush to Split just yet if you’re a beach lover—Trogir offers plenty of beautiful coastal spots as well. Plus, the town serves as a gateway to thrilling adventures: visit Krka National Park, explore the breathtaking Plitvice Lakes, swim in the Blue Lagoon, or venture into the mysterious Blue Cave. You can also try rafting, snorkeling, and canyoning for an unforgettable experience.

Split – A City That Never Sleeps

Unlike Trogir, Split is a bustling city—it’s Croatia’s second-largest and the regional hub of Dalmatia. Similar to Trogir, it’s rich in historical monuments, and its Old Town is also under UNESCO protection. However, Split offers far more than history: numerous beaches, stunning natural surroundings, and exciting excursions make it a dream destination. Surrounded by mountains, it’s also a great spot for hiking—Marjan Hill, located right next to the city center, is an excellent place to start. From here, you can set off on island-hopping adventures and explore the nearby coastline.

Location & Accessibility

Trogir and Split are just 40 minutes apart by car, making them similarly accessible. If traveling by car from Hungary, you’ll take the M7 motorway, then switch to the A4 and A1 highways in Croatia.

While Split is a big city with ample parking, Trogir has limited parking options, mainly outside the old town. Both cities are reachable via public transport—FlixBus and trains can take you there. However, trains only stop in Split, so if you choose Trogir, you’ll need to take a short bus ride from Split.

Atmosphere

If you’re looking for a lively, bustling city filled with entertainment, events, and adventures, Split is the place for you. As the largest city in Dalmatia, it’s full of Mediterranean charm and nonstop energy.
On the other hand, if you prefer a quieter, more relaxing getaway, Trogir is the better choice. Here, you can enjoy peaceful strolls through the car-free old town, dine at excellent restaurants, and soak in the town’s historical charm.

Costs

Since Trogir is a smaller town, vacationing here is generally more affordable. Accommodation prices are lower, while transportation and dining costs are fairly similar in both locations. However, overall expenses depend largely on your preferences. Both cities offer luxury stays as well as budget-friendly options, so whether you're looking for a lavish retreat or a cost-effective trip, you’ll find something that suits you.
